Christmas One Shot I'm Not Cheating - The Christmas Party

Title: I’m Not Cheating - The Christmas Party
Fandom: SR
Pairing: Clark/Lois
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 2669

Short One shot SR universe - Lois and Superman are married. Lois is determined to get a great gift at the annual Daily Planet Christmas gift exchange. When Clark refuses to cheat to help her she is left to her own devices.

The office potluck Christmas party was in full swing when Lois arrived back at the office after running a last minute errand. She had noticed an ad for a toy that Jason really wanted at a local store and ran over as soon as they opened to be sure to get one before they sold out, again. The men including Richard were sitting together at desks near where the food table had been set up most likely for easy access to refills. The women were all over by the tree. That is all the women except Cat, who was off in a corner talking to some guy Lois didn't know. She wasn’t surprised to find that Clark was missing.

Everything looked so tempting that it was hard not to load her plate with a bite of each item although she did skip most of the meat dishes being a sometimes vegetarian. As always though, she found some dishes were just too hard to resist, like the honey baked ham. She had to have a bite of that. Once her plate was filled, overfilled actually, she surveyed the two groups of people and without hesitation joined the men taking a seat between Jimmy and Richard.

She asked Richard between bites. “Did I miss anything?”

He shook his head. “Just Perry’s little speech about how we are all a big family and what a great team of writers we are.”

Lois listened to the guys talking but at the same time started eyeing all the neatly wrapped packages under the tree. She was determined to get a great gift this year. Last year she had spent hours trying to pick out the perfect gift to bring to the office exchange finally deciding on a bottle of wine, two finely etched glasses and a nice delicate smelling candle. She had gone well over the twenty-five dollar limit. It was a gift she would have loved to have gotten instead of that stupid carving knife. So what that it was a special carving knife in a self sharpening holder from Decadent Pets, I mean Decadent Chefs, she thought. You don’t need a special self sharpening carving knife for take out boxes. Although Clark might have found it useful if she could ever find the darn thing.

This year she had a plan. She would pick her own gift or the one Clark had brought and if that failed she would ask Clark to peek for her so she would know which wrapped gift to choose. That’d work she had her ways of getting Clark to do what ever she wanted, within reason that is. This was definitely within reason.

Clark finally arrived and quickly filled his plate pulling over another chair as Jimmy moved his to make room for him next to Lois.

Polly stood up as everyone finished eating. We decided to do something a little different to add to the fun this year. She started handing out numbers as she spoke. “Each of you will be given a number from one to twenty-three. The person with number one gets to choose a gift and unwrap it. But here is where we have the fun, the person with number two can steal the opened gift or pick a new one to unwrap. If a person has their gift stolen then they get to choose another gift or steal an unwrapped gift but not the one just stolen from them. If a gift is stolen a second time that gift is frozen and no longer in jeopardy of being stolen. This continues until everyone has had a turn. Are there any questions?”

Lois looked at her number and smiled. It was number three. “What number did you get?” She asked Clark.

“Nineteen” He said showing her the little slip of paper. That made her smile even more, thinking that they had good positions at both ends of the spectrum.

Polly looked around the room. “If there aren’t any questions we’ll take a ten minute break to let you refill your drinks and do whatever you need to do then we’ll start the game as soon as everyone gets back.”

Lois immediately grabbed Clark’s arm and directed him to their shared office. “Here’s the plan. You look in all the packages and tell me which ones are the best options. That way we will end up with something good… and I don’t want any cooking gadgets or gag gifts.”

“Lois, I can’t do that! Ah, it’s cheating.” He shrugged.

“Not even if I make it worth your wild.” She smiled seductively then whispered in his ear, “Remember that lacy black number you like so much?” She snuggled up to him practically kissing his earlobe as she whispered the last part.

He smiled back. “How could I possibly forget that, but even so, I won’t cheat for you.”

“What if I spssssssss spppppppp” she whispered in his ear.

He turned and looked at her swallowing hard. “Sounds very tempting, but my answer is still no. If you want to cheat, you’ll have to do it without my help. Just be happy with whatever you get. I think this sounds like it could be a lot of fun.”

“Fine, will you at least go get me some coffee? At least I know I’ll like that. Joyce from the Foods section made it.”

Xox

Jimmy had gotten number one so he was the first to pick a gift. Opening it he smiled, “Gee, this is great. My girlfriend loves this cologne.”

Lois looked at him like he was crazy. Why would he be happy he got a bottle of woman’s cologne? Why would someone bring a gift like that anyway? Duh, unisex people, ever hear of it? She shook her head.

Bob, one of the sports writers was next. He chose the gift Lois had brought figuring it was the same thing she had brought last year and he was right.

Lois stood up. “My turn,” she said and proceeded to grab Bob’s gift.

Bob protested, “Wait you can’t steal the gift you brought in. No fair.”

“Sure I can. I don’t remember Polly saying it wasn’t allowed. Hand it over.” Polly shrugged in sympathy. Clark and Richard both rolled their eyes knowing that the game was likely to get testy.

Handing the gift over he went back to the tree and found another gift that just by looking at it you could tell it was some kind of Wine. Sure enough it was two bottles of his favorite wine. Quite happy with the gift he sat down smiling again.

A couple more people had their turns then Frank from entertainment stood in front of Lois. “I’ll take that please.”

“It’s frozen.”

“No it’s not but it is now.” He said smiling as he took the prize.

Lois reluctantly stood up and went to the tree. Before she selected a new gift she turned and gave Clark a hopeful look. She put her hand on one of the gifts hoping he would give her a sign but all he did was shrug. He wasn’t going to be any help. She looked over at Bob’s wine. Could she really be that heartless? She looked back at the wrapped gifts. Finally deciding on the one Clark had brought in. He had good taste. After all he fell in love with her didn’t he?

Opening it up she found the most intricate crystal angel she had ever seen. She wasn’t really into such things but this was just beautiful. He had to have found it in Italy. She was already imagining just how it would look on the mantel right next to her…”

She looked up to see Francine from the Religion section standing in front of her blocking her view of the tree. “I’ll take that if you don’t mind.”

It was right then and there that Lois decided she absolutely hated this game but she was even more determined to get something she would like. Seeing nothing she wanted to steal that was available she went back to the tree trying to remember which gift Richard had brought. He had good taste too as she remembered. Unfortunately she couldn’t remember seeing him with a gift so ended up picking a gift she thought might have been his contribution. Opening it she found …house shoes…well they were unisex… but house shores? Sheesh I’m doomed she thought. Now it’s all up to Clark to bring home something good.

Sitting the box of house shoes down by her chair she decided to go get some more coffee. At least that was good, darn good. She should talk to Perry about trying to get the food section moved up to their floor.

The game continued in her absence. Just as she was sitting back down Bobbie from the health and fitness section came over and asked to see the house shoes. Lois narrowed her eyes and complied, maybe she was back in the game after all.

“Hmmm, I’ve read about these.” Bobbie said obviously interested in the shoes. “They’re made of special materials and have let’s see,” reading she continued, “French lavender that, once heated stays warm for up to two hours after just two minutes of microwaving. Cool.”

“Wait, what did that say?” Lois asked suddenly interested herself.

“Too late, they’re mine now. Thanks Lois.” Bobbie walked away with the house shoes still reading the box as she took her seat smiling.

Lois took a deep breath and headed back to the tree to once again pick a gift. Someone else had already stolen the angel she had liked and it too was now frozen. She looked at the gifts under the tree again and picked one. It was in a small little gift bag, most likely a gift card. That might be alright. Her luck it would be for some sports bar. Thinking twice she put it back and turned to look at Bob. No one had stolen his wine. She smiled and went to him with her hands out just waiting for him to once again hand over the goods to her.

Everyone laughed as the big burly man reluctantly complied and returned to the tree to choose yet another gift. He picked the small bag Lois had just rejected and upon opening it found a gift card for a popular restaurant. He looked and saw it was marked ‘50 Dollars’. “Wait this is a mistake that is way over the limit. I can’t accept this.”

Joyce broke out into a huge grin. “Well actually they allowed me to buy a couple cards as gifts both half off as a Thank You for a recent review. So enjoy.”

Clark leaned over to Lois and whispered “The Christmas Spirit works in mysterious ways, you are never going to win against it so I suggest you just start enjoying the game.”

“It doesn’t matter I have what I want now. This wine will go great with Sunday Dinner. You just wait and see.”

“Sorry Lois hand it over” Richard said not even having to get up holding his hands out waiting for her to hand him the bag with the wine.

“No!” Lois moaned. “This is my wine go get your own.”

“No it’s mine and no one can take it now.” he laughed. Clark was trying to contain his amusement but it was getting more difficult with each exchange.

Finally complying she remembered Bob’s gift card. “Ah ha. Gimme!”

This time Bob just broke out laughing and handed it over without complaint. Deciding he had liked the result with the tiny gift bag he chose another one and found box seats to the Apricot Bowl. “Wow, I can’t believe this. Even as a sports writer, I’ve never had seats like this before. This is great!”

Perry was smiling from where he sat, happy to have made someone’s day.

“Lois turned to Clark. See everyone is happy.”

Gill stood up and said yes I am Lois. I’ll take that gift card now.”

“What gift card?” she said innocently.

“The one in the little bag on your lap.”

“Oh you mean this little bag? She rolled her eyes. “Here take it.”

Gill took the bag but before he sat down he frowned. “Hey, where’s the gift card. There’s nothing in here but the tissue paper.”

Clark smirked, “the gigs up, hand it over.”

Lois sighed and pulled the card out from where she had hidden in the top of her blouse finally handing it over. She was once again forced to pick a wrapped gift since anything she really wanted was frozen. She looked at the choices and decided that perhaps there were some good ones left and the small gift bags had been particularly good so far. Taking one she was delighted to find a gift card to Alexandra’s Surprise. She loved that place. It was where she had gotten that little black number Clark liked so much. She went back to her seat happy hoping no one else would steal her gift. She was really starting to get tired of all the exchanges.

Several more people took their turns and Lois was starting to feel safe. There were only a few more people to go. That was when Cat the gossip columnist got up smiling heading right for her. Resigned Lois just handed the bag over. She went to the tree and picked up the first gift she came to not even caring any more. Opening it up she found a box that showed a picture of a glass tea pot with a flower inside. It actually looked pretty interesting. The bag also had a separate container containing a variety of flowering teas. Hmmmm. This does look interesting and Clark loves tea. She wouldn’t be disappointed if she got to keep this gift. She forgot it technically wasn’t hers yet and opened up one of the pouches to smell the flower. She smiled taking in the aroma. Clark noticed and smiled at her happy that she seemed to be satisfied. She handed him the little pouch to smell.

“That smells really good.” He took the box and was reading it when Polly announced. “Clark, you’re up next.”

He looked at Lois and her Flowering Tea pot. No need to steal that. Besides he had a better idea. He got up and walked over to the water cooler where Cat was waving the Alexandra’s Surprise gift card around as she cooed to Brad, a sales rep from somewhere, telling him how he could help her pick out some special lingerie. She stopped speaking as Clark approached them.

“Since Lois and I are the only newlyweds here, I’ll just take that if you don’t mind.” He pushed up his glasses and looked her directly in the eye.

Cat was surprised, she had always seen the potential in Clark but she had to admit Lois had really brought Clark into his own. Darn he was to die for. Too bad she hadn’t been his type. She put the card back in the little bag and handed it to him. Besides she didn’t really need it she figured. The way Brad was eyeing her he would gladly buy her half the store if she asked.

Clark went back and sat down next to Lois who was literally beaming with her hand out expecting him to hand over the card. Instead he smirked as he pulled the card out of the bag and put it in his inside suit pocket. “Sorry, but this is my gift and it’s frozen.”

The whole office had been watching and broke out laughing.

The rest of the people got their gifts and as the party ended everyone was jovial and laughing. They all agreed it had been the best Christmas party ever and they hadn’t even missed the booze that was no longer allowed at company functions.

Xoxo

To All A Merry Christmas and To All A Good Night!

I hope you enjoyed this little story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

This is my gift to you.

Fan Fic - SR I'm Not Cheating

Title: I’m Not Cheating
Fandom: SR
Pairing: Clark/Lois
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1290

- Short One shot SR story. Richard is playing a game he can't seem to win...untill Clark comes along to help

~~~~~~~~~~~
Clark walked up behind Richard and looked over his shoulder. The man had been looking intently at his computer screen for 5 minutes without appearing to move. “Whatcha doing?”
“I’m playing Mah Jong.”
“Oh, I’ve heard of that. Is it fun?”
“Yeah it’s fun to sit here hours on end and never ever win this stupid game. It’s rigged so you almost never win. I’ve played countless times and haven’t won once. It’s rigged I say.”
“Why do you keep playing then?”
Richard took his eyes off the board and looked up at Clark. Shaking his head slowly he answered. “I’m not sure, it’s kinda addicting. Besides I’m determined to win, even if it is rigged.”
“How do you play.”
“It’s basically a puzzle and memory game. You match two pieces and they go away. The tiles have to be free. See the ones with the little shadow on one side? They’re available.”
“Oh, you mean like that N wind one here and here, and the 7 balls there and there and…”
“Wait…wait not so fast.” Just then Richard’s phone rang so he got up while he motioned for Clark to take his seat and continue the game.
Not more than two minutes later he closed his phone and looked back at the screen. Fireworks were going off. “Wha…what’d you do? I’ve never seen it do that before?”
“Umm, I won.”
“No way. How could you have won so fast. No freaking way!”
“Actually, I had to go adjust your mouse setting because it was so slow it was bothering me. And you really need more memory in this laptop don’t you get tired of the slow response?”
“Quit changing the subject. What did you do. Oh, that’s the screensaver right?”
Clark pointed to the bottom of the screen it read:
Congratulations you won in 52 minutes! Click the link to add your name and time.
“You cheated. “Play again this fifty dollar bill says that no way can you do it again.” He set the bill on the table.
Clark laughed hit the link and inserted RW & CK then hit enter allowing Richard to see what he had done then hit the new game button.
Less than a minute later the fireworks were once again on the screen. Clark started to reach for the fifty dollar bill but Richard stopped him.
“You cheated. I couldn’t even see what you were doing but I know you cheated somehow. Are you doing something to the programming?”
Clark chuckled and this time inserted CK Wins in the winner’s box. The time was 46 seconds. “I’m not cheating. It would‘ve been even faster if you had decent memory in this dinosaur of yours.”
“Hmmrph, ok I’ll up the ante to a hundred bucks.” He took out a second bill and put it on top of the first. “But first I want to just make a few adjustments.” Richard angled the laptop towards him and changed the game configuration setting to expert player it had been on average player with a basic layout. “Let’s see you win this.”
He turned the laptop back towards Clark who just laughed and began the game. Richard rubbed his eyes trying desperately to keep up with Clark’s rapid movements with no success whatsoever. Before the minute was up the fireworks were once again on the screen. “You’re cheating, you have got to be cheating.” He covered the bills with his hand again. “No way can you really be winning that fast. No way.”
“Richard I’m not cheating. I’ll prove it to you.” He didn’t even bother adding his initials for the win but instead went directly to a new game. “This time I’ll slow down enough for you to watch.” He looked at Richard again. “I don’t cheat and I don’t appreciate being called a cheater!”
This time Clark made a point of going slow enough so Richard could see each and every move as he clicked on the matching tiles. Finally when the game was again almost won Richard said. Ok, so you have one awesome memory but you can see somehow what’s under the tiles so you know which order to choose them and and…”
“Richard it’s a computer game there’s nothing for me to see under the tiles. Its memory and strategy nothing more, now give me a break.”
“But how do you remember so much so fast?”
“What can I say other than I have an eidetic memory.”
“What, huh?”
“Eidetic, it’s similar to a photographic memory.”
“What? You like remember everything?”
“Pretty much… and quite vividly.”
Richard got quiet all of a sudden. He looked away for a moment and then turned his gaze back to Clark. “So is that one of the reasons you had such a hard time when you first returned. You couldn’t forget Lois and what you two had shared?” Clark just shrugged and nodded.
“That was part of it.” He looked melancholy for a moment his eyes unfocused. “I don’t know, it just seemed to me the first day I met her that she was meant to be in my life. It just felt so right.”
Richard nodded then smiled changing the subject back to the bet picking up the bills and offering them to Clark. “I guess you won. I should have known better than to bet against you.”
Clark laughed. “I can’t take your money. I would feel like some kind of shark or something.”
“Hey wait, do you play poker?”
“Naw, not any more. I did a few times in college but I tend to count cards without even meaning to do it. I told you, I don’t like being accused of cheating.”
“We should go to Vegas.”
“No way.”
“We really should go to Vegas.”
Just then Lois walked in seeing the two men deep in conversation. “Who should go to Vegas?”
“Us, you, me, Clark. We could make a killing in Vegas with this guy.” He said nodding at Clark who was just shaking his head no.
“Are you trying to corrupt my innocent husband?” Richard chuckled at that suggestion.
Clark looked up at her frowning. “Innocent? I’m no innocent.”
“Yes you are, in this day and age anyway.”
“Lois, if I’m such an innocent then why do we have a five year old son when we’ve only been married two months?”
“Because you were so innocent that you couldn’t resist my beguiling ways.” She sashayed over and sat down in his lap circling her arms around his neck.
“Then why did I run off and leave never even telling you, the woman I loved that I was leaving?”
“Well you’ve got me there. That was just plain stupid or maybe you just couldn’t handle that I had tarnished your innocence.”
“Lois I’m not an innocent if I was as innocent as you say I would have crumbled a lot sooner. Sooner still if you had ever paid any mind to Clark being in the room.”
“Ow, me thinks he protests too much.” Lois said as she got up and addressed them both. “If you go to Vegas don’t expect me to bail you out of jail for card cheating.”
Clark pouted and sighed almost resigned. “I don’t cheat but I’m also not an innocent…I’m just… me.”
Xoxoxo
That’s it. I love that game and it is addicting. Unlike Richard I have won but not very often.
The Kent Family Book of Holidays - Halloween Part 2 - The Party
Clark reluctantly pulled the costume out of the box, “Oh darn, I think it may be too short. I am a little taller than the average person you know.” Clark looked consolingly at Jason and Kala. Jason immediately seemed upset.
“Clark, it’s stretchy it’ll be fine, now go put it on. We’re waiting to see what you look like.”
Just then the doorbell rang out. “We’re here, is everybody ready?” Richard called poking his head into the house.
Jason was down the stairs to greet them in a flash with Kala trying her best but failing to keep up. “Daddy Richard, Daddy Richard. Can you guess who we are?” he jumped down the last few steps just as Richard and Chloe let themselves in. Two week old Braden was fast asleep in a baby carrier dressed as a pea in a pod.
“Hmmmm, lets see, why you couldn’t be Dash and Violet Parr?”
Jason giggled. “Aa huh, and guess what, Mommy and Daddy are Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. What are you?” Jason shrugged not placing Richard or Chloe’s costumes.
Clark came down the staircase in the garish Mr. Incredible costume with the black mask in his hand. “Yes what are you supposed to be?”
“We’re farmers, can’t you tell?”
“You mean I could have just pulled something out of the closet and called it a costume? Instead of making a foo…” Looking down at Jason and Kala’s faces he stopped and took a deep breath before finishing. “fun statement like this?”
“These clothes were not just from our closet. Chloe had to go all the way to a thrift store in Smallville to find them. Overalls, phef, I didn’t have any overalls in my closet.” He grinned stifling a laugh as he blatantly looked Clark up and down, “I heard Jason picked your costumes.”
Chloe just smiled shaking her head at the two men’s friendly teasing of each other.
Lois came down the stairs with Elina in her carrier still sound asleep but now dressed as baby Jack-Jack. Seeing Clark in the costume for the first time she suppressed an amused smile. “Awwww, honey you look great. See it’s not too short, I told you it would stretch. Richard, be sure and get a picture of Clark and the kids. I promised Martha, oh and Perry wants a copy too.”
“What, you told Perry? Please tell me you didn’t tell anyone else.”
“Just Jimmy… and Bruce.”
“You told Bruce? Oh no! He’ll never let me live this down.”
“Awwww, it’s not so bad. Look how excited Jason and Kala are. This’ll be fun if you just relax and have fun with it.” Lois kissed his cheek and handed him the baby carrier.
He smiled down at Elina and spoke as if to her, “What respectable superhero goes out without a cape, I really miss my cape.”
Xoxo
“Kent, nice costume. Love the Mrs.” Jim Young, their next door neighbor called out as the two families entered the back yard down the block where the party was being hosted. The entire back yard of the host’s house, the Johnson’s, had been decked out in Halloween decor. Tables were filled with all sorts of treats and candy along with hot apple cider for the kids and a keg of red wine waiting to be set-up for the adults. There was even a kiddie spook haunted bounce house for the youngsters. Several kids were already bobbing for apples out of a nearby barrel. There was even a bowl with ballots for everyone to vote for best costume and best family.
All the people had some form of costume on, many elaborate some home made or just pulled together from whatever was on hand. Jim, the Kents highly competitive neighbor was ‘The Grim Reaper’, his wife was an angel, their teenaged son, Robbie, a very good Jack Sparrow and their seven year old daughter Jennifer was a young pop singer. A set of twins about Jason’s age came as Superman and Batman much to his delight. The Kents were the immediate hit of the party since their costumes were quite elaborate and all one theme.
Clark still feeling somewhat subconscious looked around and decided most of the other men most likely picked out their own costumes. Other than Jim’s, all of the other men’s costumes were rather conservative like Richard’s. It made him realize that there was a lot to this whole father business that he was still in the process of learning.
Just as Clark began to relax and mingle with his adult neighbors he was surprised to see Jason running circles around the yard playing with the other children but running much too fast. Luckily no one else seemed to be watching except Richard and Lois. Clark quietly excused himself from the circle of people around him on the patio and joined Jason in the yard.
Grabbing the youngster as he raced by, Clark spoke softly in his ear. “What do you think you’re doing? You know better than to run so fast.”
“But Daddy, I’m Dash, he can run fast too, remember?”
“How could I ever forget, I must have seen that video with you 20 times just in the last month. Jason, Dash is a cartoon character, he’s not real. You can’t let anyone know that you can do things like this. Remember how important it is to keep our secrets.”
“But that’s no fun, that’s why I wanted to be Dash.” He pouted. “Will I ever be able to show people I’m like you?”
“Jason, when you’re older and fully trained if you still want to, then you'll be at my side and everyone will know about you. But right now you’re just too young and inexperienced?”
“What’s in-x-pear-anced”
“Inexperienced. It means we need to do a lot of training together. Alright?”
“Ah huh. Kala too huh and Elina when she gets bigger?”
“Yes” he smiled at their inclusion, “Kala and Elina too. Now go back and join your friends but remember be careful, no super stuff.”
Jim, standing with another one of the neighbors, called out, “Hey, Mr. Incredible can you help us with this keg? We can’t seem to get it up on the table.” Both men chuckled.
Clark smirked back, “Sorry but I’m off duty right now.” The men just laughed and with one on each side lifted the heavy keg onto the table.
Clark looked around for Kala finding her playing with Jennifer, both bouncing happily in the spook house. Satisfied he went back to join Lois, Chloe and Richard as several of the neighbors ooooooo’d and aaaaaaaaa’d over the babies.
Clark continued to keep a watchful eye on not only the Kent kids, but the other neighborhood kids as well enjoying their antics as they all ran around squealing and playing.
Xoxo
I own nothing. Darnit.
Author's Note: Cross posted to several places :p
Short Summary:  This is a short two part story of the Kent Family's first Halloween together.  This story follows the continuing adventures of the Kent Family I created in my All Is Not Well/All Is Well - The Kent Family Saga which is continuting in Glimpses of the Kent Family.
For those not familiar with my prior stories:    Chloe is the Chloe from Smallville but she is not related to Lois, she is the only crossover with Smallville.  Lois and Clark are married with an adopted daugther Kala and a newborn daughter Elina along with Jason.  Richard and Chloe are also married with a newborn son Braden and the two couples are best friends.   Richard and Chloe know who Clark really is.
Prologue
The Kent family was excitedly finishing dinner on the Saturday evening before Halloween. The block where they lived took special notice of all holidays each having its own special celebration centering on entertaining both the kids and adults in the families. Lois and Clark would be celebrating their first anniversary in just three weeks, this would be the Kent’s first Halloween living on the block, their first Halloween as a real family. The two older kids, Kala an adopted daughter almost nine, and Jason their six and a half year old son, were looking forward to the festive party. Elina was just over one month old and Braden White the newborn son of her god parents, Richard and Chloe White, would be exactly two weeks old Halloween night. Both families were planning to attend the party together since the White’s had been given honorary membership in the block even thought they lived a couple blocks away on the river.
The Kents and Whites had some notoriety on the block, being known as ‘Friends of Superman’. Well the Kents did win the best decorated house on the block last Christmas thanks to the ‘Winter Wonderland’ Superman created by making their house the only one in the neighborhood to have a ‘white Christmas’. But that is another story in the life of the Kents. This one is about their first Halloween together.
Xoxo
“I still don’t know why you wouldn’t let me peek at our costumes Lois. You did say the kids picked them out didn’t you. How bad can they be?”
Lois smirked as she juggled feeding Elina and trying to finish her own dinner. There would be treats and food to nibble on at the party but she had insisted both kids eat beforehand so felt she and Clark had to set a good example. She winked at Jason and Kala who were enjoying keeping the costumes secret from their father.
Jason jumped up from his chair. “All done Mommy, can I go get ready now?”
“Me too.” Kala chimed in quickly finishing her milk then joining Jason standing next to the table waiting for an OK to run up and change.
“Go on, we’ll be up in a couple minutes.”
“What about me, can I go get ready too, I’m done?”
“No Clark, you have to wait for me. Elina’s not done yet.”
“Why do I have the feeling I’m going to be really sorry I couldn’t go with you and the kids to pick out the costumes?” Clark breathed out with a dramatically exaggerated sigh.
“Well, it’ll teach you to let your six year old son make decisions on what you wear! Just think about what some of his favorite things are.”
Clark’s eyes got big, “You didn’t let him pick that!? Wait, I thought Kala was going to help pick out the costumes?”
“Our sweet to a fault, like her father, daughter let her little brother pick.”
“Oh.” He sighed again fearing the worse. “I think maybe there’s an emergency… someplace.”
“Oh no you don’t mister, if I have to wear what he picked for me, then you have to wear what he picked for you. It was your idea in the first place to let the kids choose. Besides you fly around everyday in that skin tight blue suit with women constantly ogling you. How bad could a Halloween costume our son picked out be?”
“But Lois, you know why I need to wear a skin tight suit. If it wasn’t skin tight it would be shredded in no time and women are not constantly ogling me.”
“Yes they are, but it’s alright especially since I’m one of them.” She chuckled.
“Well, I don’t encourage anyone, anyone but you that is.” He couldn’t help smiling slyly.
Kissing Elina’s head as the baby finished feeding Lois pulled herself back together and handed the half asleep infant to Clark. “Here take your daughter and put her in the bassinette while I retrieve our costumes and check on our other two kids.”
Xoxo
Rather than put Elina right into the bassinette he sat down in the rocking chair and quietly rocked her for several minutes as she fell into a deep sleep like only young babies seem able to enjoy. Besides enjoying the still new thrill of holding his baby it served to delay the inevitable costume reveal. He was already pretty sure just what Jason had chosen and he was dreading the party already. He couldn’t help but wonder Who did family costume parties anymore anyway?
“Cccclaaaaarrrkkk, we’re waiting for you.” Lois called from their bedroom.
“Well Elina, I guess Daddy has gotta go and bite the bullet.” He kissed Elina’s cheek and placed the sleeping infant in her bassinette giving her one final kiss on her rosy little cheek before straightening up. “I'm coming, just making sure Elina is asleep first.”
As Clark walked down the hall he could hear three heartbeats in their bedroom so he knew they were indeed all there just waiting for his reaction. Taking a deep breath and following his promise not to peek he entered the room and quickly bit his tongue so as not to visibly cringe at what he now knew for sure. He didn’t want to let Jason know he was horrified at the prospect of wearing the costume the little boy had obviously so proudly picked out. Why had he not known this would happen? He should have known!
Lois had a floor length bathrobe wrapped around herself and was holding up a big box but he didn’t need x-ray vision to know just what was inside the box. Two smaller boxes were on the bed the larger of them open, the smaller still closed and most likely contained a costume for Elina. Jason and Kala stood nearby with enormous smiles on their faces. That is Dash and Violet Parr stood nearby.
“Here’s your costume Mr. Incredible.” Lois choked back a laugh at the expression on her husband’s face.
“But, I can’t pull off a Mr. Incredible. He has a gigantic chest and belly. I…”
“Don’t worry skinny, the suit comes with plenty of padding, just like the hips and bottom on mine.” She opened her robe and let it fall to the floor. “Meet Elastigirl, your wife.”
“Did Jason pick out Richard and Chloe’s costume too?” He asked hopefully, swallowing hard.
“No, Richard knows better.”
Xoxoxoxoxo
This Halloween episode TBC - At the Party
Update from Vger
Gee looks like my Journal has been ignored since last November.  I guess I need to update!
My partner and I sponsored a neighborhood garage sale last month.  Her husband drove around in his little sports car advertising for us.  Here is a picture of Catherine and I in the car.  We had a lot of fun and the day was a big success.
For Memorial Day we put flags in everyone's yard.  That was also lots of fun.  Boy some of the yards were like concrete!  I actually got a blister on my thumb from trying to get all the flags into the yards.  We put out about 275 flags in one evening.  People were driving by waving at us and everyone was really nice.  Awwwwwwwwwwww
Catherine's husband made the 'flag' carrier for us out of his golf cart and a tall laundry basket.  He is so ingenious.
